​Qiu Yong leads delegation to South Korea

On August 31, Qiu Yong, secretary of the CPC Tsinghua University Committee, led a delegation on a visit to South Korea to deepen Tsinghua University’s cooperation with various sectors in South Korea in education. science and technology, as well as people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and to contribute to advancing the China-South Korea strategic cooperative partnership. Yang Bin, vice chancellor of Tsinghua University Council, also participated in the visit.

Qiu Yong meets with Kim Min-seok

That afternoon, Qiu Yong met with Kim Min-seok, leader of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea, at the National Assembly of South Korea. They exchanged views on deepening cooperation between the two countries in education, science and technology, and talent development, as well as working together to respond to opportunities and address challenges brought by cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence.

Tsinghua and Seoul National University renew MoU and Student Exchange Agreement

During the visit, Qiu Yong and his delegation met with Ryu Hong-lim, President of Seoul National University, to exchange views on strengthening cooperation between the two universities. Qiu Yong said that this year marks the 115th anniversary of the founding of Tsinghua University and the 10th anniversary of the University’s implementation of its Global Strategy. Seoul National University is a founding member of the Asian Universities Alliance and shares a strong foundation for cooperation with Tsinghua. He expressed hope that the renewal of the agreements would open a new chapter in cooperation between the two universities. Ryu Hong-lim said that he looked forward to deepening mutual understanding while expanding research collaboration and academic exchanges into more areas. Following the meeting, Qiu Yong and Ryu Hong-lim, representing their respective universities, renewed the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation and the Student Exchange Agreement.

Qiu Yong and his delegation also visited POSCO Holdings in South Korea and met with Lee Ju tae, President of POSCO Holdings, and Kim Seong Keun, President of POSTECH. Both sides expressed hope to leverage their respective strengths to achieve more cooperation outcomes in areas including new materials, new energy, and artificial intelligence.

During the visit, Qiu Yong also met with representatives of Tsinghua alumni in South Korea.

Heads of the School of Law, Office of International Affairs, Tsinghua Education Foundation, and other relevant units participated in the activities.
