International Scholars New Year Reception held

The 2026 Tsinghua University International Scholars New Year Reception, also the 11th Beijing International Scholars Exchange Platform event, was held at the New Tsinghua Xuetang on December 19. Professor Yang Bin, vice chancellor of Tsinghua University Council, and Professor Chen Deliang, foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, were present at the event. The reception gathered international scholars and their families from 14 schools and departments across Tsinghua, as well as representatives from partner institutions including Beijing Foreign Studies University, China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, Beijing Overseas Talents Center, and the International Department of Tsinghua University High School. Over 130 guests from 28 countries and regions came together to welcome the New Year in a festive atmosphere filled with cultural exchange.

Yang Bin delivers greetings

Yang extended heartfelt New Year greetings to all international scholars and guests. He reviewed the continuous growth and increasing diversity of Tsinghua's international scholar community over the past year and highlighted the University's positive progress in advancing the Beijing International Scholars Exchange Platform, organizing cultural immersion activities, and hosting highlevel academic lectures. He emphasized that Tsinghua will continue to foster an open, inclusive, and resilient academic environment, working hand in hand with scholars worldwide to advance knowledge innovation and international collaboration.

To offer an immersive experience of traditional Chinese culture, the International Students & Scholars Center (ISSC) arranged a series of interactive cultural booths featuring calligraphy, Peking Opera mask painting, ring-toss games, and instant photo sessions. The atmosphere reached a joyful climax with a surprise flash mob performed by Amy Cheung—daughter of Tsinghua international scholar Professor Yitwah Cheung—and her young friends. Their uplifting voices, filled with a spirit of courage and exploration, drew warm applause from the entire audience.
