Professor Zhang Min from the Department of Computer Science and Technology of Tsinghua University was recently inducted into the ACM SIGIR Academy. The Association for Computing Machinery's Special Interest Group on Information Retrieval (ACM SIGIR) announced the inductees for this year’s academy on May 27, 2025, recognizing Professor Zhang’s exceptional contributions to the field of information retrieval.

ACM SIGIR stands as the foremost international academic organization dedicated to information retrieval, celebrated for organizing globally respected conferences such as SIGIR, CIKM, and WSDM. These events are highly regarded in both academic and industrial circles. Induction into the ACM SIGIR Academy is a rare honor reserved for individuals who have made sustained and impactful contributions to the field, including pioneering new research directions, driving technical innovations, providing significant service to the academic community, and other achievements leaving a lasting mark on information retrieval. Inductees are also noted for their active participation in the ACM SIGIR community and their ability to inspire others through their work.

Alongside Professor Zhang’s role as a professor, she serves as the Deputy Director of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence at the Department of Computer Science and Technology, Tsinghua University. Her influence extends internationally as a member of the ACM Publications Board and as the Editor-in-Chief of ACM Transactions on Information Systems (ACM TOIS), a top-tier journal in the field. She has also taken on prominent leadership roles in major conferences, including serving as General Chair or Program Chair for ACM SIGIR 2026, ACM Multimedia 2025, CHIIR 2024, CIKM 2023, RecSys 2023, and WSDM 2017. Her academic output is equally impressive, with numerous influential papers published in leading international conferences and journals. Professor Zhang’s work has earned her a host of accolades, including the IBM Global Faculty Award, the Outstanding Teacher Award in Computer Science for National Universities, the ACM SIGIR Test of Time Award, as well as the First Prize of the Beijing Science and Technology Award and the First Prize of the Qian Weichang Chinese Information Processing Science and Technology Award. Beyond academia, her collaborations with domestic and international enterprises on various research projects underscore her wide-reaching impact.
