Tsinghua professor wins IChemE Oil and Gas Award

Tang Junwang, Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering of Tsinghua University, has been presented with the Oil and Gas Award at the 2022 IChemE Global Awards ceremony held in Manchester, England, on Nov. 17, 2022.

Tang was awarded for his work on photocatalytic conversion of methane to high value-added liquid fuels and chemicals. The technology can not only address the increasing energy crisis, but also mitigate environmental issues.

Founded in 1922, the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) is committed to promoting advanced chemical processes and technologies to contribute to industrial production and daily life. It has more than 33,000 experts and scholars from the fields of chemistry, chemical industry, biochemistry and engineering worldwide.

The IChemE Global Awards recognize groups or individuals who have made significant contributions in the chemical industry, process science and biochemical engineering industries etc. Among them, the Oil and Gas Award is one of the most competitive awards.

Prof. Tang is a member of Academia Europaea, a Royal Society-Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellow, and a Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences, Fellow of RSC and Fellow of IMMM.

He is currently the Founding Director of the Industrial Catalysis Center of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University, Chair Professor of Carbon Neutrality in Tsinghua University and adjunct Professor of University College London.
