The 6th China's Green Innovation Competition concludes in Tsinghua

The 6th China's Green Innovation Competition ended in Tsinghua on August 20.

Aimed at how to achieve the goal of "promoting green development and promoting the harmonious co-existence of human and nature", the 27 green innovators of the 2021 Summer Institute for China's Green Innovators (SICGI) gathered together and participated in the competition, proposing eight green innovation plans.

The plans involved drug treatment, flood disasters, biodiversity, car batteries, weight loss and efficiency, agricultural product management, and carbon labeling, providing young people with the answer from an innovative perspective.

Supported by the Ministry of Ecology and the Environment, and having undergone two weeks of intensive course training at Tsinghua University, the green innovators travelled to Beijing, Lishui city, Chun'an county in East China's Zhejiang province, Fengcheng city, Yingtan city in East China's Jiangxi province, and Foshan city in East China's Guangdong province, to carry out a three-week field survey.

Through in-depth thinking on themes such as ecosystem protection and sustainable use, high-quality agricultural development, solid waste management, and the green transformation of production and consumption patterns, they eventually took eight research reports to the stage of competition.

On-site judges and review experts expressed their appreciation for the green innovation proposals put forward by the students. They believed that the students were not only concerned about current hot issues and trends, but also concerned about people's livelihoods and development issues.

Their extensive and meticulous research work laid a good foundation for their innovative plans, and the judges hoped for the students to continue to conduct in-depth research, and seize the opportunity to go further in practice in the future.

Tim Cook, Apple CEO and chairman of the Advisory Board of Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management, congratulated them on the completion of the summer institute through his personal Weibo.

Ge Yue, Vice President and general manager of the Greater China area of Apple Inc, stated that they were very excited to work with Tsinghua University to help and inspire the younger generation to follow their enthusiasm and find innovative solutions to protect the environment in China and across the world.

Xue Lan, Tsinghua Professor, Dean of Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University, co-chairman of the Academic Committee of the Center for Industrial Development and Environmental Governance (CIDEG), and SICGI project director, hoped that every green innovator could continue to adhere to the green dream, as well as furthering their research, implementing green innovation plans, and using their strengths to make contributions to society and the country.

The SICGI was first established in 2015 to cultivate future young leaders with environmental innovation awareness. Six sessions have been held so far, with more than 200 green innovators having been trained, and more than 50 green innovation plan reports having been completed. The institute has therefore successfully provided innovative ideas and the policy basis for the practice of many local environmental departments.

This competition has invited experts and scholars from environmental government departments, social organizations, policy research institutions, and enterprises to participate in the on-site selection and comments.
