Visiting Scholars

 

Richard Balme, (Sciences Po) is program Director of “Governance and Globalization: Sciences Po in China” and also academic director of the Global Public Policy Program in China, School of Government, Peking University. He has taught public policy analysis and comparative politics at Sciences Po since 1996 and was director of the Graduate program for Public Policy and Political Sociology between 2000 and 2003. He was also Head of the Department of Government and International Studies at the Hong Kong Baptist University from 2003-2006.

 

Richard A. Boyd, (Leiden University) studied and taught in the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), in the University of London until 1993 initially as a Lecturer in Far Eastern Politics. He has held research fellowships in the University of Tokyo, SOAS, Netherlands Institute of Advanced Studies and the International Institute of Asian Studies in 2010. He is Emeritus Reader in the Law and Society of Japan at the University of Leiden, the Netherlands where he taught the government and economy of Japan since 1991. He offers the course of Comparative Development to international students at SPPM.

Research areas: comparative development, the role of the state in economic development, rent seeking in China, Japan, Mexico and Taiwan, government business relations, the politics of Japan.
