Project Overview

Project Introduction

Thanks to the generous care and persistent support of the people from all social circles, Tsinghua University Education Foundation now has had more than 640 public welfare projects in 15 main categories: scholarship (grant), teaching award, research fund, talent fund, campus infrastructure construction, public welfare fund, alumni fund, education fund, exchange fund, book fund, old people fund and Zhang Guangdou Science & Technology Education Fund.

Scholarships, Stipends and Grants

The scholarships are designed to encourage students to study hard, pursue all-round development, bring their specialties into full play and develop creativity so as to cultivate high-quality, high-level, diversified and creative backbone talents. “It takes ten years to grow a tree and a hundred years to bring up a generation of good men”. The significance of scholarship is by no mean only material award but more importantly is personality education. While the student receives the award, he also raises his sense of social identity and sense of honor of the university and establishes a sense of responsibility and public welfare.

The stipends are designed to reflect the care of the State and society for the students from poor families, help them settle part of the basic living and learning expenditure during schooling and ensure the students won’t drop out due to economic hardship of their families. Tsinghua University promises “none of the hardworking and talented students will drop out due to economic hardship of their families”.

In 2012, the Foundation supported students with about 19.69 million yuan of scholarships and stipends and awarded and subsidized more than 4000 person*times. There are about 160 scholarships with an award amount of over 13.34 million yuan, and about 50 grants with an amount of 6.35 million yuan.

Tsinghua alumni grants advocate the concept of “helping the poor, encouraging learning, loving the school and teaching the people”, specifically subsidize the students identified by the school to come from poor families and makes the students feel the spiritual motivation from all social circles and alumni while receiving financial assistance. It is a direct channel through which alumni involve in and support talent cultivation of the alma mater.

The Foundation manages about 8.95 million yuan of the scholarships and grants Tsinghua Alumni Association raised and is responsible for (including 2.59 million of scholarships and 6.36 million of grants). In 2012, it awarded and subsidized students more than 1500 person*times.
