Tsinghua President Qiu Yong attends celebrations for the University’s 110th Anniversary in YRD

Tsinghua University President Qiu Yong attended celebrations for the university’s 110th anniversary in Shanghai on April 15. Tsinghua University Vice President Yang Bin and Tsinghua alumni in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region participated in the celebrations.

In his speech, President Qiu reviewed Tsinghua’s achievements in reforming education and teaching, improving research mechanisms and personnel management, as well as promoting its global strategy over the past decade. Reflecting on the challenges of 2020, he emphasized that the Tsinghua community has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to its research, education, and reform agendas.

He also introduced the theme of the 110th Anniversary celebrations — “Strive for Excellence, Innovate for the Future”— and reiterated the importance of self-discipline and innovation.

President Qiu expressed with affection that the school anniversary is a festival for its alumni. As the most important mission of a university lies in cultivating talents, the achievements and contributions of its alumni reflect the success of Tsinghua. He hopes that all alumni will join hands with Tsinghua to reach greater heights as a world-class university, serve the country, and make outstanding contributions to national rejuvenation.

Prior to the symposium, President Qiu met with representatives of senior alumni in the YRD region, conveyed appreciation and paid tribute on behalf of the university for their indelible contributions to the development of the country and the progress of the times.
