Professor Xu Ming appointed President of the International Society for Industrial Ecology

Recently, at the annual general meeting of the International Society for Industrial Ecology (ISIE) held online, Professor Ming Xu from School of Environment at Tsinghua University was officially appointed as the president of the ISIE for a two-year term. This marks the first time a non-Westerner has been appointed as the president of the ISIE in its history.

Established in 2001, the ISIE aims to promote communication and cooperation in the field of industrial ecology and to promote sustainable development and resource utilization efficiency. Members of the ISIE include experts, scholars, engineers, and business representatives in the field of industrial ecology from around the world, making it one of the important international academic organizations in this field. Since its inception, the ISIE has been dedicated to promoting research, practice, and dissemination of industrial ecology, and has had a broad impact globally.

Professor Ming Xu specializes in environmental system engineering and industrial ecology research, and currently holds the Carbon Neutrality Endowed Chair Professorship at the School of Environment at Tsinghua University, serves as the director of the Institute of Environmental Ecology and Engineering, and leads the Environmental Data Science and Systems Engineering team. He has previously served as a professor at the School of Environment and Sustainability and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) and is currently the editor-in-chief of the journal Resources, Conservation & Recycling.
