Education background

Mr. Gao received his B.A. equivalent in 1978 and a Master of Laws/Economics in 1981, both from the University of International Business and Economics. He received a Juris Doctor degree from the School of Law at Duke University in the United States.

Experience

Mr. Gao is the former Vice-Chairman and President of China Investment Corporation. He was Vice-Chairman of the National Council for Social Security Fund of China between 2003 and 2007, and was Vice-Chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) between 1999 and 2003. As one of the founding members of the CSRC, he served as its General Counsel and Director of Public Offering Supervision Department from 1992 to 1995. From 1997 to July 1999, he served as Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of China International (Holdings) Ltd.

Social service

Mr. Gao is a delegate of 12th National People's Congress of China. Since 1986, he has served as an arbitrator the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission(CIETAC), Hong Kong International Arbitration Center and the Arbitration Institute of Stockholm Chamber of Commerce. He also serves as a member of Board of Trustees of Duke University.
