Kick off Meeting of “Bio-manufacturing and Invitro Living System Eng.” Project in Innovative Interdiscipline and Intelligence Introduced Base of THU

The Kick off Meeting of “Bio-manufacturing and Invitro Living System Engineering” Project in Innovative Interdiscipline and Intelligence Introduced Base of Tsinghua University (belongs to “111” Plan) which was set up by Ministry of Education and the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA) was held in Lee Shau Kee Science and Technology Building on Feburary 21. Jianbin Luo, Academician of CAS,  the Head of the department of mechanical engineering, Roger D. Kamm, co-director of 111 base, academician of US National Academy of Medicine, tenured professor of the department of Biology and Mechanical Engineering in MIT, Wei Sun, person in charge of 111 base, professor of The Thousand Talents Plan, Qi Yin, Director of the foreign expert office, as well as faculty from department of mechanical engineering, school of medicine, school of materials science and engineering , department of electronic engineering participated in this kick off meeting.

Luo looked forward to improving the research in Bio-manufacturing and Life Systematic Engineering in Tsinghua University and promoting the national strength through “111 Plan” construction. Yin introduced the background and the importance of 111 Plan, she said that as for the daily operational of 111 base, the office of international cooperation and exchange would lend full support in the foreign affairs and administrative fields. Roger Kamm said that it was his honor to become a member of the base and he would help to promote the cooperation between teams from China and abroad in advanced research field. Wei Sun introduced the background and the construction plan of the base. The participants discussed about the research area, course construction, talent cultivation and operation management of the base in the next 5 years. Before the kick off meeting, Professor Kamm gave a speech titled In Vitro Vascularized Models for Metastatic Cancer to the students and teachers in Tsinghua University.
