Second area is the New Theory of Economic History, applying the theories of institutional change including property-right, sovereign state and social ideology to analyze the economic history, history of economic thoughts, economic history of the market as well as the history of international economic relations. It aims to further understand and improve China's socialist market economic system through understanding empirical evidences and developing economic theories. The teaching and research fields also include Institutional Economics and Development Economics.

Third area is the Chinese Economy. China's reform and transformation of its politicaleconomy has followed a different developmental path compared with most other countries. This area focuses on constructing a new theoretical paradigm to promote economics in the world based on China’s economic history and relying on a multidisciplinary platform of Social Sciences.

Fourth area is the Theory of New Economy. This addresses network economics and big data issues including platform economic theory, Internet banking, big data analysis, and economics of innovation and entrepreneurship. It seeks to improve understanding of the evolution of new technology driving the new industrial revolution, to explore interdisciplinary approaches to information science and economics, and to broaden the scope of innovation in economics teaching and research.
