Short Biography

Dr. Dongbei Yue is an Associate Professor of Environmental Engineering and the Vice Dean of the School of Environment at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, and doubles as the Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory for Solid Waste Management and Environment Safety (Tsinghua University) Ministry of Education of China. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and Doctoral Degree in Radiation and Environmental Protection both from Tsinghua University. He has over 10 years of teaching, research and consulting experiences focused on two primary areas: solid waste landfilling and humification/stabilization of bio-mass waste, with specific interests including leachate treatment and recycling, landfill methane quantification, sustainable landfilling, organic waste humification and beneficial utilization of humic products. His research includes laboratory studies, field experiments, and full scale engineering demonstrations. He has developed an innovative 2-stage Submerged Combustion Evaporator which is critical for landfill leachate management, especially for treatment of the final concentrate from Reverse Osmosis. This technology has been or is going to be applied at four landfills/Waste-to-Energy facilities in China. Dr. Yue authors over 60 peer-reviewed publications and presented at over 20 international conferences. He currently serves as an Editorial Board Member of Waste Management and an Advisory Board Member of Mehran University Research Journal of Engineering & Technology. In addition, he has served as a reviewer for more than 20 journals and organizations. Dr. Yue has received several awards for excellence in research and teaching. His 2-stage Submerged Combustion Evaporator for landfill leachate treatment received Second Prize of State Technological Invention Award (2014, awarded by the State Council of China) and First Prize of Environmental Protection Science and Technology Award (2013, awarded by Ministry of Environmental Protection of China). He received from the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences the Youth Science and Technology Award and the Outstanding Environmental Scientist Award in 2008 and 2014, respectively. He also received the Outstanding ?Young Professional Award from the Ministry of Environmental Protection of China in 2016. Besides, he has been named Young Scholar of Distinction of Tsinghua University in 2016 and four-time Teacher of the Year in School of Environment of Tsinghua University for his dedication to teaching and research (2008, 2012, 2013, and 2014).
