Research Status

1. Hi-tech Research and Development Program of China (National 863 Project), Major Project, Research and development of fundamental techniques of higher spectrum and related demonstration system, Mar.2009-Dec.2010, Principal Investigator

    The purpose of this project is to investigate the feasibility of higher spectrum (from 6GHz to 15GHz) to be applied for mobile communications, in order to broaden the usable spectrum for future public wireless access. Key technique for coverage, transmission, networking, channel measurement and modeling, and protocols shall be studied. A trial system will be developed to demonstrate the application of higher spectrum.

2. MII Major Project, New radio transmission technique for IMT-Advanced System, Principal Investigator, Nov.2008-Dec.2010, Principal Investigator

    This is a joint project with other 8 universities, 5 companies, and 3 research institutes, which includes most of the main research resource on mobile communications in China. Its purpose is to study on suitable techniques of IMT-A system, and provide technique proposals to standard organizations.

3. Hi-tech Research and Development Program of China (National 863 Project), Key technique and demo system development for Gbps transmission, Dec.2006-Dec.2009, Main Researcher

    In this project, we developed a trial system supporting 1Gbps transmission within 66MHz, Based on 4*4 MIMO in LOS propagation environment.

4. Hi-tech Research and Development Program of China (National 863 Project), Downlink Design and Implementation of FDD/OFDM system, sub-project of 863 major project: Research and Development of Beyond3G cellular mobile communications network trial system, Nov.2003-Nov.2006, Principal Investigator of sub-project, 

    In this project, we studied key technique for MIMO OFDM transmission. We developed a trial system in Shanghai, which support 100Mbps mobile transmission. This is the first trial system based on DWCS architecture.

5. National Nature Science Foundation of China, Theory and key technology for wireless communication system based on distributed antennas, Jan.2003-Dec.2006, main researcher.

    This project studied the architecture of DWCS, and related key techniques. The new concept of DWCS is proposed, in which distributed antennas are connected to the central processing resource over high rate connections such as optical fibers. This architecture can solve the problem of traditional cellular structure, where inter-cell interference is getting more and more serious. In DWCS, signals to and from distributed antennas can be jointly processed, so that the mutual interference can be well controlled. The concept of COMP in LTE+ can be regarded as a special case of DWCS. This concept is also useful in current new concept of CRAN by China Mobile.

6. Hi-tech Research and Development Program of China (National 863 Project), High speed channel decoder for WCDMA, Aug.1999-June2000, Principal Investigator, 

    We developed high speed channel decoder for WCDMA, including turbo decoder and Viterbi decoder. The outputs of this project were later transferred to Spreadtrum Company, who integrated them into the first TDSCDMA chipset in the world.
