Achademic Views:
Human beings have their unique behavior modes and styles, many of which are determined by the human physilogical characters. Also many of the social behaviors are  developed in the long-term social environment. Hence there developed various colorful furniture types when these various behavior styles is reflected on the furniture people use.
In their daily life, different behavior styles such as standing, sitting, and lying are associated with relavent furniture, while these various of behavior styles also determine the various purposes and configurations of furniture. Even if for the same behavior style, the configurations of furniture differ as people’s social class, living habit and national customs differ.
The essential purpose of furniture is to meet people’s demands for material as reflected in the municiple exquisite behavior styles in various forms in people’s daily life. In the design of modern furniture, we tend to focus on the variation of furniture on the configurations without investigating the internal reasons or background which induce such changes. This result in the situation that people design for the purpose of designing, design for simply changes on configurations, and that the designed products cannot meet people’s actual demands. Meanwhile, this results in the fact that our domestic industry emphasizes on quantity while neglects the “quality”. “Quality” here does not mean the technical quality in furniture production, but the social quality of the furniture, which has been generally neglected, as well as the humanity contained in it.
Therefore, intensive and comprehensive study of people’s behavior style may help us to obtain more reasonable furniture functions and configurations, so that the furniture can reflect people’s social spirits and the characteristics of the times. In the contrary, changes of the furniture configurations may also change people’s behavior styles, even change people’s daily living styles, so as to make associated changes in people’s social lives.
