Professor Liu Jingming has interests in social stratification and social mobility. He has successfully applied research grants from National Social Science Foundation, the Ministry of Education and has participated in the “National General Social Survey” (known as CGSS). Professor Liu has published more than 30 papers in journals like Social Sciences in China and others. His book State, Social Strata, and Education have won the first prize in The XI Philosophical and Social Sciences Best Books and Papers, Beijing, 2006. In 2007, he was selected in the New Century Talent Program sponsored by the Ministry of Education. Before coming to Tsinghua, Professor Liu has taught in the Sociology Department at Renmin University from 1993 to 2008, serving as Tutor,Lecturer, Associate Professor, and Professor.

Professor Liu’s main research interests include social stratification and social mobility, sociology of education, and social research methods.
