1.The 2001 Science and Technology Rewarded Meeting was held in the Main Building recently. In the meeting, Gong Ke, the vice president of Tsinghua, reviewed the scientific research in 2001.Wen Shizhu, academician of the Precision Instruments Department, Wu Zongxin, professor of the Nuclear Energy Research Institute, Liu Guanzhong, professor of the Academy of Art and Design gave speeches, and introduced the research work of their units. 2. SSGA's Research Center of Sport Science at Tsinghua, founded on March 20,2002, is the only one founded at a university not specialized in Sport Science among six authorized by The State Sport General Administration (SSGA) in the first evaluating.(Yin Lijuan, 03/28/2002)

Examined and approved by the Ministry of Propaganda of CPC and the Press and Publication Administration of the State Council, the monthly magazine Art & Design, which was published by the Academy of Art of Tsinghua University, acquired two national honor (State Magazine Award, National Top 100 Magazine), and also the title of Two-honor Magazine.(Deng Di, 03/28/2002)

3. Visiting US President George W. Bush addressed students and faculty members at Tsinghua University in Beijing on February 22, 2002. More than 300 Tsinghua students and faculty members attended the meeting. Nearly 100 Chinese and foreign reporters gathered at the hall of the main building of Tsinghua University to cover President Bush's Tsinghua visit.Tsinghua president Wang Dazhong hosted the meeting and extended his warm welcome to President Bush.Chinese Vice President Mr. Hu Jintao met with President Bush at Tsinghua University before Bush's speech. Vice-President Hu said in his remarks that young people are the hope of the country, the future of the world and the fresh force pushing forward Sino-U.S. friendship.

4.Tsinghua University Gymnasium and Diving Pool was listed as one of Beijing's 10 best architectural designs of 2001 recently. Winners of the annual architectural competition are voted in public by Beijing residents.(01/16/2002)

5. Zhu Chen, 25, becomes the second Chinese player to win the world title after Xie Jun who won the world championship in 1991, 1993, and 1999. Zhu Chen had the last smile in a chess battle as she beat Russia competitor Kosteniuk in the four-game final of 2001 Women's World Chess Championship, which concluded in Moscow in December 14, 2001. Zhu attended Tsinghua University in 1995 as a student majoring in Chinese Language, and then turn to the School of Economics and Management of the university.

6. China's State Administration of Cultural Relics has included part of Tsinghua University campus on its most recent list of State-level protected cultural relics.On the Tsinghua University campus, which covers a total area of 810,000 square-meter, State-level protection was applied to a number of structures including the Grand Auditorium, the Hall of Science, the Hall of Tsinghua, the Grand Library, Tongfang Bu and the Grand Gymnasium. This marks the first time any part of university campus has been included among China's key protected cultural treasures since the founding of New China in 1949.
