Zhang Bo
Zhang Bo, Professor of Computer Science and Technology, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was born in Fuqing, Fujian Province in 1935. He graduated from the Department of Automatic Control, Tsinghua University, and has been working there until the present. He was at one point a visiting scholar at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, U.S.A. He is now the director of the State Key Laboratory of Intelligent Technology and Systems. Recently, his main interests have been the theory and application of artificial intelligence, neural networks and genetic algorithms, knowledge engineering, intelligent robotics and intelligent control. He has published more than 100 papers and 3 books in these fields. He has presented a quotient space theory of problem solving in artificial intelligence. Based on the multi-grained problem solving theory, new principles of uncertainty management, qualitative reasoning, fuzzy analysis and the combination of evidences are proposed. He has also presented new approaches of multi-level information synthesis and multi-level planning and searching, so that the capability and computational complexity of machine problem solving are inproved. He has suggested new approaches in neural networks for analyzing several neural models and new learning methods. Due to his academic achievements, he has been awarded the ICL European Artificial Intelligence Prize, the Third Class of National Natural Science Prize of China, the First and Second Class of Science and Technology Progress Prize of the State Educational Commission, and the First Class Science and Technology Progress Prize issued by the Ministry of the Electronic Industry.
