Wen Shizhu, Professor of Precision Instruments and Technology, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, an expert in mechanical engineering. He was born in Fengcheng, Jiangxi Province in 1932. He graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Tsinghua University, with the honor of an Excellent Graduate Golden Medal in 1955, engaged in advanced studies and worked as a visiting scholar in the Imperial College of Science and Technology in the United Kingdom in 1979. He served successively as the Director of Machine Design Division, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Tribology, Vice President and Honorary President of Tribology Institution of Chinese Mechanical Engineer Society, editor of the journals: Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering, Tribology (in Chinese), Tribology International, Tribotest, etc. He presided over the First Asia International Conference on Tribology. Over a long period of time, he has engaged in research on elastohydrodynamic lubrication and thin film lubrication theory, the mechanism of and control of friction and wear, nano-tribology and micro-machine design, etc. He has authored 4 monographs, Principles of Tribology, Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication, Antiwear Design and Nano-Tribology and has published more than 260 papers. He has won fifteen prizes, including national or ministerial prizes for his distinguished research achievements.
