Professor Shoushan Fan was born in 1947 in Shanxi, China and completed both his undergraduate and graduate educations at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. He joined the faculty of Physics Department of Tsinghua University in 1981, where he is now a professor and the Director of Condensed Physics Group. He is also the Director of Tsinghua-Foxconn Nanotechnology Research Center.

Fan has been a visiting scientist at MIT (1984-1986), Harvard (1993-1995), and Stanford (1998). Fan¡¯s recent research interests are focused on the synthesis, characterization and applications of nanomaterials and nanodevices. He has published more than 60 papers in scientific journals, including in Nature and Science. Fan was awarded Cheung Kong Scholar Achievement Award in 1999£¬and was elected as the Member of Chinese Academy of Science in 2003.
