Adjacent to the "Han Pavilion" is a statue of Han erected in April 1984.
Wu Han graduated in 1934 with an exemplary academic record. After graduation, he worked as a school assistant and instructor for some time. During the anti-Japanese War, he worked as a professor at Yunnan University and later at Southwest University. He was known as a strict teacher, and students liked him. When China became embroiled in political turmoil a decade later, he devoted himself to the country's liberation.
Following those turbulent years, Wu accepted a number of academic posts, including vice president of the school's Standing Committee of Administrative Affairs, professor of history department, and president of the School of Literature. Later, he was appointed vice mayor of Beijing.
