Han Pavilion

¡¡ The Han Pavilion is one of the most attractive sights in the Jinchun Garden. It was built in memory of the outstanding Tsinghua graduate and history professor Wu Han.

¡¡ Wu Han graduated in 1934 with an exemplary academic record. After graduation, he worked as a school assistant and instructor for some time. During the anti-Japanese War, he worked as a professor at Yunnan University and later at Southwest University. He was known as a strict teacher, and students liked him. When China became embroiled in political turmoil a decade later, he devoted himself to the country's liberation.

¡¡ Following those turbulent years, Wu accepted a number of academic posts, including vice president of the school's Standing Committee of Administrative Affairs, professor of history department, and president of the School of Literature. Later, he was appointed vice mayor of Beijing.

¡¡ Wu died on October 11,1969. In October 1984, the school decided to build a memorial pavilion in his honor. On the facade of the pavilion, the Chinese characters for "Han Pavilion" are inscribed, copied from the original calligraphy of then Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping.
