ApplicantsAll applicants should be over 14 years old (including Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao students), and will be assigned to an appropriate class according to their Chinese proficiency level.

Courses

(1)Language course: Chinese language listening, speaking, reading and writing.

(2)Cultural course: Taiji, Martial arts, calligraphy, seal cutting, Chinese Traditional Opera  etc.

(3)Experience Chinese Culture: Beijing Opera,  Chinese acrobatics etc.

(4)Off-campus tour: visits to historical places and local enterprises

This year, 22 students from University of Pittsburg participated in the summer program. In order to help the students to better understand Chinese economics, politics, cultures and other custom, Tsinghua University offers four lectures and 2-hour a day Chinese language course at two weeks for Pittsburg’ students, which cover a range of fields including Chinese Economics, International Politics, and Chinese culture and history and so on, taught by professors from relevant department, Tsinghua University. Students are from engineering department with different majors. After lectures, Tsinghua University arranges students to visit successful enterprises in different industries around in Beijing. The students also visit some main scenic spots and historical sites such as the Museum Palace, the summer Palace and the great wall and so on.

There are 21 students from University of Taxes at Austin in the summer program this summer. Tsinghua University offers three weeks course for UT students including Chinese Culture and Society, Chinese language, Sino-US relations and language program. Except Sino-US relations taught by professor from University of Taxes at Austin, other courses were taught by professors from relevant departments, Tsinghua University and researcher from National Development and reform commission. Tsinghua University also arranges Mr.Yang Rui a senior journalist from Dialogue program in CCTV-9 to discuss Sino-US relations face to face. Studying abroad in Beijing is the first experience for many students. Tour is also more important part of their experience to understand natural scenery and places of historic figures and cultural heritage of Beijing. Students visit main sites, which can best represent Chinese culture such as the great wall and the summer palace and Forbidden City and so on. They have one-week free time for travel out of Beijing. They will go to Shanghai and Xian and Inner Mongolia for one week. Students feel different regional custom of China in this way.

Tsinghua University and University of Illinois have cooperated for many years. This summer, there are 7 students participate in this program. Depending on students’ Chinese language level, students take their Chinese course of study to meet their individual needs. Tsinghua University offers 6 weeks primary and advanced Chinese course for the students. Besides these, Tsinghua University also offer some lectures in which the students are interested, such as Chinese painting & calligraphy, Chinese Social Cultural and history and Chinese folk music and so on. Students of Illinois stay in Beijing much longer than other programs. The students will not only travel around in Beijing but also visit China’s most modern city—Shanghai.

Tsinghua-Franklin Pierce Summer Program in Chinese IP Law was formally approved by American Bar Association and organized jointly by School of Law, Tsinghua University, China and Franklin Pierce Law Center, USA in 2002.The program lasts for five weeks from the middle of June to the end of July each year in Beijing and Xian. Four courses relating the Chinese IP laws and regulations is given and six credits for the students enrolled in any American law School can be recognized by all American law schools. It is only program in Chinese IP law in China and continues for five years.
