The 5th "Turing Forum of 3 Institutes" was held at Tsinghua University on November 15th. Nearly 200 scholars and students from top universities and research institutes participated in the event.
The event was co-organized by Tsinghua University, Peking University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, with Tsinghua University's Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences (IIIS) as the host.
The forum featured two Turing Award laureates: Professor Andrew Chi-Chih Yao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences who directs Tsinghua University's Institute for Interdisciplinary Information and Sciences, and Professor John Hopcroft, a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences who leads the John Hopcroft Computer Science Center at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Center on Frontiers of Computing Studies at Peking University.

In the opening ceremony, Professor John Hopcroft reflected on the founding vision behind the “Turing Forum of 3 Institutes”, which Professor Andrew Yao and he established to serve as a collaborative platform for young scholars.
Following his remarks, the IIIS Vice Dean Prof. Xu Wei, on behalf of the Institute, welcomed the guests in attendance. He noted that under the leadership of Professor Andrew Yao and Professor John Hopcroft, the three universities came together to create the “Turing Forum of 3 Institutes” as a platform for collaboration. In light of the rapid development of artificial intelligence, it’s vital to strengthen cooperation in this area.
A panel discussion on the theme “Past, Present, and Future: Charting the next Golden Decade of Computer Science” brought together influential scientists including Professor Andrew Yao (Tsinghua University), Professor John Hopcroft (Peking University& Shanghai Jiao Tong University), Professor Xu Wei (Tsinghua University), Professor Deng Xiaotie (Peking University), and Professor Lin Zhouhan (Shanghai Jiao Tong University).
