Chinese Society And Chinese Law

A legal system is better understood by apprehending the society and the interactions between the law and the society. This course intends to introduce Chinese social structure, current economic reform and fast social changes, and both historical and contemporary developments of Chinese legal system. It puts emphasis on the legislative and governmental structures, characteristics of Chinese law, the judicial system, the role of law in the market formation and social transition, interpretation of legal rules, enforcement of law in society, and the trends of the rule of law in China.
