 Tsinghua
University has a long and glorious tradition of legal
education. Shortly after the first decade of the last
century, Tsinghua University began offering legal
courses and inaugurated a law faculty assembling an
impressive group of legal scholars. Our graduates are
numerous and of high caliber as evidenced by the leading
roles they have assumed in both the private and public
sectors of law.
In this dynamic year of social
transformation, we are mindful of both our history and
the need to carry on the tradition of excellence. The
law school of Tsinghua University now occupies a
prominent place in our nation’s legal education. Since
its re-establishment, we have made extraordinary
progress in building a leading law school and
endeavored to explore new attitudes from many quarters, at
all times with the view of enhancing an innovative
approach to legal education. We have embarked upon an
exciting path forming new patterns in the education of
lawyers, judges, and scholars always refracting what we
have observed through the lends of what we believe to be
our nation’s best interest.
The law school of Tsinghua University has a devoted
and committed faculty. We are equipped with first class
teaching and research facilities. We have cultivated a
favorable academic ambience for the pursuit of truth and
justice. We put students at the center of our concern
and deeply care for the comprehensive development of
each one. We turn all of our efforts to their
development as highly qualified legal personnel with a
broad and solid intellectual foundation. All of this
follows closely the pace of social development while
keeping abreast of advances of legal research. We work
step-by-step with the farsighted vision of the creation
of a vibrant system of Chinese legal science and
education.
A nation’s prosperity depends on The Rule of Law.
The establishment of The Rule of Law depends on the
promotion of legal science and the training of a large
number of superior legal personnel. The exalted aim of
governing the state by law and establishing a socialist
country of The Rule of Law to which the nation is
committed demands reform and the development of legal
education. It is an unprecedented opportunity for legal
scholars. In the process of these epochal changes, the
Law School of Tsinghua University will always heed the
call of the nation, and endeavor resolutely and
consistently to promote legal research and education. It
is our fond hope that our faculty and graduates will
make a vibrant contribution to the realization of our
nation’s grand destiny.
