General Information about the department
At the end of the 1950s, the Optical Instruments and Precision Instruments division was set up in the former Department of Machine Tools and Manufacturing, which was reorganized into the Department of Precision Instrumentation and Mechanical Engineering in the early 1960s. This department was renamed the Department of Precision Instruments and Technology in 1984. Now it has 34 professors, 18 supervisors for Ph.D. candidates, and 104 associate professors. It has Bachelor's programs in Machine Design and Measurement, Precision Instruments and Measurement and Control Techniques; Master's programs in Engineering Graphics, Measuring Techniques and Instruments, Mechano-electronic Control and Automation, and Industrial Engineering; and both Master's and Doctor's programs in Mechanology, Machine Manufacturing, Optical Instruments, Precision Instruments and Machinery. The Department also has two post-doctorate research stations in Instruments and Mechanical Engineering. In this department there are the main portion of the National Key Laboratory of Tribology; the Manufacturing System Laboratory of the CIMS Engineering Research Center; and the National Key Laboratory of Precision Testing Techniques and Instruments, which is now nuder construction.
