Materials Science and EngineeringWelcome to the home page of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Tsinghua University. Please feel free to browse our site. A general introduction to the department follows.
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering was established in 1988 by combining three different divisions: Materials Science from the Dept. of Engineering Physics, Metallic Materials from the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, and Inorganic Non-metallic Materials from the Dept. of Chemical Engineering.
Undergraduate study is available in the field of Materials Science and Engineering, covering five research areas: Materials Physics, Metallic Materials, Inorganic Non-metallic Materials, Composites, and Electronic Materials. Master's and Doctor's degrees are conferred in Materials Physics, Metallic Materials and Heat Treatment, Inorganic Non-metallic Materials, Polymer materials, and Nuclear Materials. Furthermore, there is a post-doctorate research station in Materials Science and Engineering.
The Department has the National Key Laboratory of New Ceramics and Fine Processing now under construction, and the High-tech Enterprise Base, a combination of production, research and learning approved by the Government. The Institute of Materials Science and the Materials Center Laboratory are here as well.
There are 21 full professors, 14 supervisors for Ph.D. candidates, and 37 associate professors.
