Welcome to the WWW Home Page of the Automobile Engineering Department at Tsinghua University. The purpose of this document is to provide informationabout our depatment, as well as provide links to other pages.

The Department of Automobile Engineering, which was set up in 1980, developed from the Automobile Engineering Group of The Department of Mechanical Engineering, which was established in 1932.

There is an Automobile Engineering program for undergraduates. It is divided into three research fields: Chassis, Body, and Internal Combustion Engines. The Department also has one Doctoral program and two Master's programs.

Now there are 14 professors, 4 supervisors for Ph.D. candidates, and 22 associate professors; most of young teachers hold either doctorates Master's degrees. The staff members undertake important national research projects as well as tasks entrusted by companies, such as the development of electrical automobiles, the electronic control of automobiles, and special desert automobiles for the oil industry. The National Key Laboratory of Automobile Safety and Energy-conservation is under construction, to do research in such areas as automobile safety, energy-conservation and emission, vibration and noise.
