Advanced Manufacturing Technology is the focus of research in the School. In recent years, the departments have undertaken several "863 High-tech" projects, major national projects,
a large number of projects from the National Natural Science Foundation and some international collaborative projects. The departments of the School have won Nation level awards on
30 projects and Ministry and State Commission level awards on 202 projects for the outstanding achievements in scientific research. At present, the emphasized new areas of research
in the School are advanced manufacturing technology, micro/nanotechnology, optics and opto-electric technique, laser processing and rapid prototyping technology, numerical simulation
and optimization of hot-working processing, automobile safety and energy saving, electric vehicle and so on. The School has 6 institutes and 5 State Key Laboratories and National Engineering Centers.
