In order to deepen the reform of education, to bring into full play the role of liberal arts in improving the students' all round qualities, to raise the level of related disciplines, and to build a first-rate socialist university with Chinese characteristics in the world, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences was founded in 1993. The School includes eight parts: the Department of Philosophy & Sociology; the Department of History; the Department of Chinese Language & Literature (including the Institute of International Sinology); the Institute of Science, Technology and Society; the Institute of Ideology and Culture; the Institute of Economics; the Institute of education; and the Center for Artistic Education. It has Master's programs in the Philosophy of Science and Technology; Modern and Contemporary Chinese History; Education of Marxism Theory; Higher Education; History of the Chinese Communist Party; Management of Education; Special History; and Ideological Education. The School has 25 professors and 44 associate professors.
