School of Continuing Education

In order to meet the needs of our socialist construction, in 1985 the School of Continuing Education was established at Tsinghua University, taking as its long-term and important tasks the cultivation and improvement of personnel on the job. In 1989, evening university and correspondence education were started in the School. Thus continuing education and higher education for in-service adults have become a component part of the higher education system at Tsinghua University. Continuing education and higher education for adults take many forms. Continuing education is not counted as formal schooling, while higher education for adults goes as formal schooling. Much attention has been paid to the quality of continuing education. The school has received much support and cooperation at home and abroad. With the support of UNESCO and other international organizations, scores of advanced classes of international cooperation in continuing education have been held. In 1993, the continuing education work for the school won a first class National Award for Excellent Teaching Achievement.
