Undergraduate Programs and Admission
Undergraduate training is the basis of the education of the whole
university. The university makes great efforts in strengthening
fundamental instructions. Reform of teaching content, system and
methodology is a constant process. Classroom instruction is
encouraged to combine with practice. In recent years, the number of
specialties has been reduced, knowledge background of students
has been widened, and the orientation of each specialty is more
flexible. Dual-major system has been set up, which is beneficial
for training students with both engineering and science (or
management or humanities) degrees. Overall Credit System was
implemented in September 1994, which further activated the educational
reform. The quality of juniors enrolled keeps very high. In the past
few years, more than 50% of the No.1 and top-ten high-school graduates
(science and engineering oriented) of all Chinese provinces have been
recruited to Tsinghua. Outstanding students are given special
guidance and originality is inspired. The university has been granted
numbers of national and Beijing municipal awards for excellence in
education. Tsinghua students have won many medals and honors in
various contests.
